I think the reason plenty of folks are downplaying Trump is a little about a boy crying wolf. We were all around the first time when every Trump policy position or appointment was just the first step to fascism. And then it didn't happen. The Trump/Biden transition certainly wasn't peaceful but it was a transition. We didn't have all the worst case scenarios people were dreaming about and now that those same worst case scenarios are being repeated, folks are ignoring them.
Then folks need to understand the differences between 2016 and 2024.

The people who provided the guard rails before said that they would not vote for him because he isn't qualified.

But again folks didn't listen to those with knowledge.

It really was. I heard the worst case scenarios on here and other places and they didn't happen. When J6 riots happened and we still got a new president, those worst case scenarios of Hitler style purges and dictatorships still seemed pretty hollow to lots of people.

And we are getting those same worst case scenarios so I'm guessing that's why people don't seem that concerned.
Classic desensitization.

A preview of what's to come

Dozens of Samoan children have died of measles
. So New Zealanders are sending child-size coffins. The call came from a Samoan in Auckland, New Zealand, by way of the man's father, an undertaker in Samoa: They needed children's caskets. So Ron Wattam of the Kiwi Coffin Club sprang into action
Exactly, how can one not see his position on vaccines will kill people and he is therefore a bad person.

That has been known for decades. The only two potential limitations on pardons we don't yet know are (1) whether a president can pardon himself, and (2) whether a president can pardon someone proactively for crimes that have not yet occurred. The answer to (1) with this Supreme Court is almost certainly yes, although it doesn't really matter much given SCOTUS's near total grant of immunity. The answer to (2) is probably no, but that's not what's at issue with Hunter.
I don't recall a situation where a president said "From x date to x date, Person A is pardoned for any and all federal violations". Granted, I haven't studied presidential pardons, but something like that would likely stand out.

This has already been pointed out to you several times on this thread.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gerald R. Ford, President of the United States, pursuant to the pardon power conferred upon me by Article II, Section 2, of the Constitution, have granted and by these presents do grant a full, free, and absolute pardon unto Richard Nixon for all offenses against the United States which he, Richard Nixon, has committed or may have committed or taken part in during the period from January 20, 1969 through August 9, 1974.

Yeah, sure, these things seem obvious to you. But look at them from RFK, Jr.'s viewpoint. First, imagine part of your brain has been eaten by a worm. Next, imagine that rest of your brain has been fundamentally altered by abuse of steroids. Finally, imagine that the aforementioned abuse of steroids has caused your manhood to revert to infancy. OK, now put all three of those considerations together and just imagine what short of conspiracy theories and general lunacy you would seem reasonable and obvious to you? We are talking about a guy who thinks dumping a dead bear cub in Central Park and strapping the head of a dead whale--removed with a chain saw--to the roof of his car are normal

And mind you, he is likely not even the worst person that Trump has appointed to serve in the cabinet or direct a major federal agency. That's what we're facing starting late next month.

How’d this line of inquiry work out for you?
It's not worth getting into because "truly bad person" is too subjective. RFK jr has beliefs about vaccines, many are misguided, but is he a "truly bad person" because he has had his beliefs warped by disinformation? Are all the anti-covid vaxxers truly bad because they fell victim to disinformation and were convinced that there was a mass conspiracy to exaggerate Covid deaths and that thousands of people died from the vaccine?

I wouldn't say they're bad people.

So, do I completely derail the thread by getting into what is a truly bad person? If a kid was abused by his parents and becomes an abuser himself, is a truly bad of a victim of his parents?

There's too much there and there's no chance of agreement.

So the president could authorize The Purge with a blanket pardon for all crimes committed in a specific time period.
That's what SCOTUS said in July 2024. It was not true before that. It will likely not be true long after. But yes, that's possible and it's why the immunity ruling made absolutely no fucking sense and was probably one of a small handful of the worst Supreme Court decisions of all time.

You forgot about his decade and a half of heroin use.

Of course. It would be so uncharacteristic of you to derail a thread.

Well since you put it that way... :D

^ Actually I think I got that from earlier in this thread...
