The Music Thread

Saw Vince Gill at DPAC last night. Great show! He did 35 songs, played for over 3 hours, and still sounds great. Had an excellent band of musicians with him, as well.

Supposedly the Beach Boys were an influence on the Beatles and Pet Sounds may have inspired their Sgt. Peppers album.
Pet Sounds influenced the production on Sgt Pepper as did Pet Sounds' bass tone and how Brian uses the bass as a more melodic mix forward instrument.

Recorded June 15-16, 1965. Bobby Gregg's opening snare drum slap, Al Kooper's improvised riff on the Hammond organ (he had never played one and admits he was always an eighth of a note behind everyone else), and Bob's amazing lyrics that he described as "20 pages of vomit" combined to make one of the most famous songs in rock history.

Al Kooper is a favorite of mine. He was never quite a household name but when you put together a list of all the things he did, you have to wonder why he wasn't.

The Child is Father to the Man is much more to my tastes than what Blood, Sweat and Tears did later.

Isn't Vince the best ? Many folks may not know but he is a mean guitarist

I had the privilege to see him in Memorial Hall some years ago. He had come to play golf in the annual dook Children Classic and decided to visit the Southern Part of Heaven and do another benefit performance. He brought out a stool and an acoustic guitar and sang and played solo for an amazing 60 minutes...a performance I will take to my grave

Definitely a far more talented guitarist than I would have ever given him credit. He did a little jamming here and there and slipped part of the guitar outro from "I Can't Tell You Why" into one song and did the same thing later sneaking part of "Jessica" into another outro jam.

His whole band was fantastic. He had two other guys on electrics, two on acoustics, and one on electric bass, and of course another guy playing pedal steel who was phenomenal.

He also told some great stories which made it all the better.

I'm an old codger but I have tried to find some good post disco music bands...I have Spin Doctors in my rotation and have been listening to this one and thought I would post this one for those guys who have had a difficult time dealing with a difficult girlfriend:cautious:
