I think his base is 46% at absolute maximum and not an iota more- and likely lower than that now that he killed off hundreds of thousands of his base during COVID, and is reviled by even non-MAGA Republicans now.

His base is nowhere close to that. Probably at 35% absolute max.

The problem is that there are a lot of Heelyeahs out there who hate Ds and will vote for anyone with the magic R next to their name over any D. Some of those people may just stay home, but enough will vote for Trump to get him to at least 46%.

It is important to keep in mind that Trump voter does not automatically equal MAGA. In many cases, they are just virulently anti-D as a circumstance of birth and culture.

I understand your point, and agree with it, but MAGA vs. Magic R is a distinction without a difference in terms of voting numbers.
 
He does stuff like this to get atttention, arouse his base, and change the narrative to where everyone is disgusted. Most people appalled by this weren't going to vote for him anyway and some who are appalled will forget/don't care and vote for him anyway. Like in the 2016 primary, when Rubio briefly became a serious challenger and Trumo turned the next debate into an argument over "Who has the larger p**** "
If Trump wanted to try and get his version of a Sister Soulja moment, he would go to a religious or wacko rt wing event and blast a key figure there.

And yes, Trump is quite mentally and cognitively diminished since 2016 but those who vote for him could care less, and the media just laughs it off

Stay focused on the key issues: woman's right to choose etc.
 
Yeah, I mean, the Occam's Razor explanation of today is that an old, senile, demented, racist old angry man behaved like the racist angry old man that he is. I don't think there was any 3D or 4D chess on Trump's part. He isn't that organized or strategic. He's just nasty.

Maybe, I doubt it’s that deliberate, but maybe. However the end result will be mobilizing black voters and other POC for Harris, just like Vance is driving fence-straddling women to Harris. Harris could not do better herself to put and keep Georgia in play.

He’s made a big deal about how popular he is with black voters, and that’s been a big part of the media narrative for the past few months—the in-roads he’s supposedly made with minority voters, Democrats hemorrhaging minority support, etc.

This was a big fail.

No way. He isn't smart enough for that. This was just Trump being Trump, rambling on and getting flustered whenever someone questions him about being a bigoted, racist, narcissistic sociopath. It just comes out naturally.
 
What is Trump's beef with ABC News? I mean we all know he hates all real reporting that doesn't spin lies to cover his amazing amount of constant lies.

Is it because he wants to back out of ABC debate? Anyone that says the CNN debate was biased is delusional.
