Gay marriage is a lot less safe than contraception and contraception could be on the block in relatively short order.
If overturning Griswold seems too big a climb, they might start with a challenge to Carey and then gradually broaden the scope of a contraception ban. I’d bet it would start with legislation in TX, MS or AR. Ban contraception to minors, wait for the lawsuits and take the appeal to the 5th circuit. After SCOTUS fabricates reason from whole cloth with the thread left over from Dobbs, move on to a broader ban.
Remember, overturning Griswold would only “send the issue back to the states where it belongs” or whatever phrase you head in the sand types prefer these days.
Unlikely this convoluted legal strategy would get you there but Even if it did, 90% of Americans support contraception. Is it really likely politicians are going to vote against something that 90% of people like? That's why I say that Democrat scare tactics are about as ridiculous in some cases as Republican scare tactics.

The sadist in me wants to see trump and musk and RFKjr get away with EVERYTHING in the next 4 years. Concentration camps full of brown people. Crashed economy, prices through the roof because of tariffs, dollar erased and replaced with crypto, smog filled cities and burning rivers, childhood diseases which have been mostly dormant for decades coming back, Flat earth being taught as fact in science classes, State-run media that tows the party line, next election cancelled and trump given another term by congress. The Constitution shredded and re-written. Even more gerrymandering. Schumer, Pelosi and Jack Smith all in prison. Proud boys running rampant with vigilante “Justice” owning the libs, Women walking around wearing Handmaid outfits. Soup lines, dust bowls, school shootings on the rise, but this time teachers have guns. US leaves NATO, Russia invades Europe, WW3 erupts Etc. etc. Finally blow up this shit hole of a planet.

The humanitarian in me doesn’t really want to see any of that shit. The humanitarian is having trouble beating back the sadist this week…
I just finished listening to "Nuclear War: A Scenario by Annie Jacobsen" it was chilling and I highly recommend it. We were already terrifyingly close to WW3 and just took a giant leap closer. If it happens I can only pray my family and I are at ground zero, instant incineration is preferable to the grusome alternative.

Sure. Contraception, which has a 90% approval rating amount Americans, is in real danger. When that is banned, I'll start worrying about fluffy and the sky falling.
Tell me you didn’t read the thread without telling me you didn’t read the thread. Republicans vote against their interests all the time (see page 1), and Republican lawmakers and SCOTUS don’t give two shits what their constituents want.

Republican voters are so uninformed that they likely won’t find out about it, and if they do, they’ll accept it, and then they’ll defend it. If the SCOTUS knocks down contraception, you’ll see the usual suspects on here in short order explaining all of the FOX news talking points (hypothetical for now) about how it’s dangerous, it’s ruining America, or it should be a states rights issue.

Tell me you didn't read the sub argument. I'm specifically saying democrats use some pretty absurd scare tactics and they are just as effective at changing the minds of voters as Trump saying Haitians eat cats.

Republicans might vote against their self-interest if there's a large enough block of Republicans that are really focused on one or two particular issues like guns but there are not enough Republicans that want to ban contraception to make that a viable issue.

Yes, especially w/r/t the upcoming Thanksgiving holidays. Basically, libs should accept that I will be gloating about the election but still invite me / join me because it’s my right, my side won and it’s just politics — you should still like me anyway.
Yeah, like that is going to happen. As usual, they don't want to accept the consequences of their actions. I seriously doubt that anyone who has already cut off family members because of their devotion to Dear Leader are suddenly going to change their minds after this election and start seeing them again. My guess is that anyone who went as far as cutting off family likely did so for good reasons, and that ship has sailed.

There's also the 4B movement of women swearing off heterosexual sex.

I genuinely hate the fact that I’m jumping into the fray to fight with a contrarian asshole like you, but here I am.

Will Rs ban all forms of birth control? No, likely not. Condoms will remain for sale. Perhaps some forms of the birth control pill will remain available—though they’ll push hard for parental consent laws for prescriptions for those under 18, and they’ll aim to restrict access as much as possible.

We know that Rs will push hard to ban IUDs…because they’ve already made efforts to do just that, and they will continue those efforts.

We know that they’ll push hard to curb access to birth control by allowing pharmacies and doctors to refuse yo fill prescriptions for birth control under the guise of “religious freedom.” Because Trump already set that into motion in his last term.

So while they won’t ban ALL forms of contraception, they will continue their ongoing attempts to ban SOME forms—which also happen to be the most effective forms. And they will continue to make it harder to access ALL forms.

So when Ds make a big deal out of this, it’s not without reason.

You must be pretty strong to move those heavy goal posts.

Look GT, I *sincerely* hope you're right. I hope, with all of my heart, that all this fear mongering is for naught and we're just a bunch of massively anxious liberals. But honestly it's not that big of a stretch. Trump is not long for this world just based on age and health alone, but JD Vance is ready to step in. He's already put his thoughts out there about women and children. And we actually need to sustain our birth rate or it has significant problems for the economy down the line. Women (and couples) are having fewer children these days, and it could be a problem. U.S. Fertility Rate Drops to Another Historic Low. Then there is the ultra-right view on contraception as "abortefacients." Most legislative attempts to secure a right to birth control have failed. Senate Republicans block bill to recognize legal right to contraception. I'd love to be wrong about all this, but ya know, when some one tells you who they are, believe them.

First they are going to use the Comstock Act to go after mifepristone. And then they will use it to go after the pill. You're right that they won't ban condoms (not that you could do so any way). Preserving male choice is a big part of their program.

Wish I could remember/find the author and her book. From what I can remember, she writes that conservatives saw the results of the most recent census and just how more multicultural the country is becoming. They also saw white couples were on average having fewer children. All of this combined scared the shit out of them. They see themselves in the minority in the not so distant future. Hence the stronger push for not only pro life but also to restrict as much as they can all forms of birth control. Yes there are conservatives that see this as right to life and/or some religious view, but the rest seeing themselves as a minority really lit a fire.

Not the most recent. Look into the Quiver movement which goes back some time. I think the Duggar family may have even been associated with them.

It was also behind the original banning of abortion in the late 1800s. That was driven by a populist Protestant movement worried by the southern European immigrants who were Catholic and the AMA who wanted to run the midwives out of business.
