What the fan base really needs is a dominant season even if it ends in Final 4 disappointment.

And what I mean by that is a season with 5 or less losses where we go out and win most games pretty handily.

We haven't had one of those since 2009 (although 2012 only had 6 losses). Those kinds of seasons are a bit of reset in that folks get to see a lot of wins and really enjoy most of the games. Since 2009, we've averaged 10.5 losses per season. That kind of consistently good but not elite teams makes everyone grumpy because it starts to feel like every game is stressful.

I mean, yeah, it's a very spoiled way to watch basketball, but we're a very spoiled fan base.

I'm not sure if we did anything terribly differently than normal or if Ian Jackson has just come out and dominated, but I like it.

We also got some decent minutes from Jalen Washington. It's crazy how much better we look when we can get even basic competence from our bigs.

I’ve given up on this team doing things differently, because they aren’t (ND is really bad), and just enjoying the Captain Jack show.
 
Need to get Trimble healthy and back in the lineup.
Sit Cadeau.
Play RJ at point.
Capn Jack.
Still a 3 guard line up.
Hope for the best from the 4 & 5 positions.
Looks like Powell and JWash may settle in as starters.
 
The missed wide open dunk by Withers speaks volumes about him…. And why he won’t start another game. Drake gets his starters minutes from here on out.
 
The whole reason that UNC was ranked to start the season was that we had a first time all-American returning.

That first team all-American is currently shooting under 40% from the field. Today he has 6 points, 0 rebounds, 0 steals, 0 blocks. He does have 7 assists, which is something, but we need much much more. There's no excuse for him to not have a single rebound or steal.
 
Remember the excitement when our entire starting lineup made well crafted 'I'm back' videos after beating dook in the final 4? That was the high water mark of excitement as a fan. The actual tournament run felt too much like a dream to feel real.

I'd say that high water mark was halftime of the NC game with a 15 point lead, but that obviously lasted a much shorter time than the preseason hype going into the next year.

But otherwise I agree with you that much of the Hubert years have been excitement over possibilities undercut by significant underperformance in reality.
 
Wow. That was some luck and weak end of game defense against the drive. Let their guard get a head of steam … Kudos to Cadeau for not fouling but that game didn’t inspire much confidence.

Well, sometimes you have to luck out along the way. Just take it and move on, I guess.
