Yep. With the GOP securing a solid Senate majority and likely keeping the House, a national abortion ban is definitely on the table, as are attacks on contraception, IVF, and other items. But when you vote for Trump and a Republican Congress this is what was going to happen, so it is apparently what most voters (including white women) wanted.

Democrats keep allowing Republicans to bait them into defending stupid non-issues like trans men playing women's sports, or sex change surgery for trans prisoners. What did Trump say yesterday when asked how he voted on the Florida abortion bill? He said "stop talking about that," and ignored the question.

Democrats need to answer questions about stupid culture war issues with "that's ridiculous, the American people are concerned about kitchen table issues and that is the focus of our campaign." Just do not get drawn into fabricated culture war issues. If you see some bullshit is getting traction as the case of the trans prisoner surgeries, you simply say "the Biden Administration followed the exact same policy that the Trump administration did.....why aren't you asking Trump about this?" and move on.

Pubs* look through a lense of self pity and hate. How can America make my personal place better instead of that person over there. Pure conjecture, but I also actually do think there is something to that.

Whether you agreed with him or not, Bernie knew exactly what he wanted to do policy wise and was very concise in explaining how he was going to do it and why he believed it was a good thing. Hard to put a finger on it in one post, but he just felt very authentic.

I think part of why Kamala didn’t resonate with enough voters can be attributed to simple misogyny and/or racism. At the end of the day, Americans just don’t have the pallet for a woman, and especially a woman of color, to be president. I also think she is perceived by a lot of people as corny/inauthentic/out of touch/however you want to phrase it, especially by younger people. I’m not saying that that’s fair or correct, I just think that’s how a lot of people see her.

A lot of blue state voters didn't show up right? It seems like states like NJ are missing 600k Dem voters, in states assumed she'd win.

That's exactly how many voters, especially young voters, saw her. In fact, the 'word salad' critique surfaced on multiple occasions. "We don't really know what her policies are and how they'll actually help me.".

Sure if you don't count the 45 combat deaths in Afghanistan or the missile attacks on Syria and such. But, that's fairly honest for your ilk.

This is pretty much how the race would have gone in 2020 but for COVID. A lot of people who voted against Trump for that single reason were very disappointed in Biden’s handling of the pandemic — he couldn’t just make it go away and people were frustrated when the fight over masks and public events and schools extended well beyond the availability of the vaccine.

When we when to the Sweet Sixteen in Philadelphia in 2022, I was stunned that the City was just tentatively emerging from COVID restrictions. People seemed freaked to mingle in restaurants, many of which were operating at half capacity with about a quarter of staffing. You want an explanation for the red shift in Blue States? That’s it.

We’ve memory-holed the pandemic but I’ve thought the last few years that the frustration and outrage about inflation has always been about more than the economic impact. A lot of people most outraged about it actually did better financially the last four years.

But in my opinion the inflation thing is also a stand-in for the thing no one wants to talk about anymore — the pandemic. Inflation was an obvious, lingering and unavoidable daily reminder of something everyone has been trying to forget. Electing Trump probably felt like resetting to January 2020, before everything else that followed. Start over where we were.

I don’t think the Dems had a candidate, make or female, who was going to overcome that, but when Harris made the wouldn’t change a thing gaffe she cemented her perceived culpability for the thing no one wants to talk about.

We also assumed young voters would be repulsed by Trump, but they have turned 16-20 years old during Biden term. These voters were 12 years old when Trump came around and they don't know what it was like.
